The Cost of College Has Risen 439% Since 1982 #Infographic

As a student entrepreneur I often struggle with the the idea of remaining in school and increasing my personal debt while I’m bootstrapping my company. There have been many times over the past two years that my parents and I have had long heated discussions over the value of a four year degree in today’s society.

Billionaire and Paypal Co-Founder Peter Thiel coined the controversial “higher education bubble” alongside his 20 Under 20 fellowship program. The fellowship gives students under 20 the opportunity to drop out of school and create their own company with a $100,000 grant. Much of the data presented in this infographic justifies the argument I made to my parents about the overwhelming price of higher education, and also makes the Thiel fellowship look like a viable alternative.

  • What frustrates me about this data is that fails to account for the drastic cuts to public funding for higher education at public institutions.

How high would tuition be at a public two or four institution today if state appropriations to higher education had kept pace with inflation?

  • Schools that provide primary education, are mostly referred to as primary schools. Primary schools in these countries are often subdivided into infant schools and junior school.
